Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Each week we have scheduled 1 hour of indoor gym time for team practices. Practice locations vary each season. Coaches will determine place/day/time.
Games are played in school gyms on Saturdays. Locations and times vary each season.
WHAM has been asked by the schools to limit who is at the practices to the coaches and players on that team. There should always be 2 adults with the players in the gym. Parents of kindergartners-2 may be at practice. But for older grades, we ask that you please wait in your car in the parking lot. ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER CHILDREN should be at practice that are not on the practicing team’s roster. No exceptions.
Yes, you will see the section to add a coach or friend/family member to play with. We will do our best to honor all requests, however, we can’t guarantee you will be on the same team as your friend/family or coach request. If you register during late registration or after, request are definitely not guarenteed and, in most cases, we will have to place your child where there is an opening.
Your child may play up a grade but never down. To make putting teams together easier, please register for the grade you would like your child to play in.
We start by forming teams by coach and friend requests. After that we always try our best to keep you as close to home/school as possible. However, nothing is guaranteed, everything depends on the number of kids that sign up in your area. Please be aware that some coaches get well over 10 requests. Then we will ask the coach to send in a final roster.
Minimum of 6 players. Teams do not exceed 10 players per team so every player can receive a fair amount of playing time. Each player is to play at least ½ the game. If a player misses practice before a game, play time is up to the coach but has to be discussed with parents before game.
Yes, a onetime/per season discount will be refunded back after the 2nd game of the season. Coaching is not guaranteed.
- Discount will not be applied until the full amount of registration has been paid.
- If you have any unpaid fees from other seasons you will not be allowed to coach in future seasons.
Yes, but you are not allowed to limit the size of your team. If WHAM needs to place an athlete on your team, you are required to take them. Remember we are a recreational league not club.
Yes, we have many coaches that have 2 or more teams. Just know that we try our best to make accommodations for the head coaches so you will have at least 1 hour in between games. We suggest always having an assistant coach if anything comes up. It is very hard to change schedules with so may having multiple teams.
Because we have so many coaches that have 2 or more teams inside of Wham it is very hard to also include obstacles outside of Wham. We cannot make the schedule or make changes for anything outside of Wham.
Teams are put together by grade.
Kindergarten – Coed
Girls Division – 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade & 7th/8th grade.
Boys Division – 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade & 7th/8th grade.
High School Division
- Divisions, depending on numbers, may be combined differently. For example, Kindergarten/1st grade or 2nd/3rd grade. If 2nd is combined with 3rd, they will go by 3rd grade rules.
- If 2nd and 3rd grade are combined there is no tournament for that age division.
- For older boys divisions if numbers are low divisions may be combined differently, or multiple grades may be combined. For example, 6th-7th grade, 7th-9th grade.
*If numbers are low, grades may be coed.
There is tournament play for 3rd grade – 12th grade. The winners of the tournament will receive an award.
For 3rd grade – 12th grade, the first 1-5 weeks consist of regular season games and the final weeks are playoffs. This also depends on how many teams there are in your division.
Depending on the season, the last few weeks will be left blank. Tournament games will be added weekly by the Tuesday night before the next Saturday game.
Every team, whether you win or lose will have a game every Saturday until the last Saturday of the season.
*If 2nd and 3rd grade are combined there is no tournament for that age division.
The seasons can be 7-12 weeks long. Teams are guaranteed 7-12 games depending on the season.
Each player will receive a reversible jersey. Kindergarten-6th grade will receive a ball.

Teams that don’t have enough players to play a game (due to sickness, other activities, etc.) is considered a forfeit. In order to play the game so that all the players & other team that show up can still play, the team can field a team by adding players from another team (must be the same division). The team can also mix & match players with the opponent if the opponent agrees. The game will show as a loss on the schedule for the team that didn’t have enough players show up, however, the game will still be played. The league enacted this rule to try to ensure all the kids that show up for the scheduled game get to play, even if a team is missing too many players to play the game. No matter how low your numbers are, always show up to your game.
